To the west of Denver and higher in the mountains are some of the winter wonderlands we love to ski in, including Aspen, Telluride, and Vail. While they have some similarities, each Rocky Mountain resort town also has its own unique features making them exciting, relaxing, and fun to visit any time of year. Getting there is fast and easy aboard a private charter jet.
Most people think of skiing (along with other winter sports) when they consider a Rocky Mountain resort destination. While the state sports some of the best skiing locations in the country, there are many other reasons to visit its mountain resorts.
1. Enjoy Aspen’s Cool Summers
With an average summer temp in the 70s, Aspen offers landscape and the arts all in one location. The town dates back to the late 1800s, when silver and gold miners hoped to find their fortunes. You can take in the history after a quick private charter flight from Denver. Mingle with the ghosts from yesteryear in neighboring Ashcroft and Independence, explore the art museum, or take in a theater performance.
You can also enjoy an easy hike to one of the nearby lakes or follow along the Rio Grande Trail. Looking for more adventure? Shoot the rapids on a white-water rafting tour on the Arkansas River. Alternatively, for a calmer view, see the area on horseback in a half-day or all-day ride. Then spend the night on a local working cattle ranch.
You will have easy access from the airport to the nightlife that Aspen is known for, including the many craft pubs and fabulous local restaurants. Visit with the locals and make new friends with fellow visitors. There is always a lot happening in Aspen.
2. Take in the Views From the Telluride Gondola
Telluride boasts some of the best views in the country. You can catch some of them when flying into the Telluride Regional Airport on a private charter jet. But for a more relaxed approach, take the free scenic ride on the gondola. Get used to the local air first, though, because Telluride is a cool 8,750 feet up in the San Juan Mountains. The gondola takes you even higher to a 10,500 feet elevation along the San Sophia Ridge.
Late spring, summer, and early fall are perfect for taking a hike or rafting the San Miguel River. While not for the faint of heart, paragliding is offered to beginners and those more advanced in the sport. During the summer, you may want to plan your trip around Telluride’s Mountainfilm Festival, Bluegrass Festival, or the Blues & Brews Festival.
You can also enjoy nature year-round with a fly fishing tour along one of the region’s many flowing rivers. Take a walking tour through the village, and make sure to visit the art district before you leave.
3. Vail Is More Than a Top-Notch Skiing Location
Getting to Vail is quick and convenient aboard your private jet charter. The town offers hiking trails, biking trails, and zipline tours along its glorious Rocky Mountain pathways. Take the family for a six-mile mountainous adventure to Pine River Falls and back. Kids ten years and older can take a zipline adventure of a lifetime at Epic Discovery Park. Also, adventurous adults can zoom down Vail Mountain on a mountain bike. Warning: This isn’t for beginners or the faint of heart.
Calmer activities abound with a guided tour in the company of a llama to carry your day packs. Visit the Vail Nature Center and take in the flowers and fauna at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. How about a round of golf at one of the plushest and highest golf courses anywhere?
Ski buffs should stop by to see the Colorado Ski and Snowboarding Museum. Dog lovers can enjoy a mushing adventure. Also, strong visitors can test their strength on a Vail rope course.
